TPO FAQs
Understanding the regulation
From time to time, the cosmetics industry introduces new regulations to keep standards up to date. These changes are about future compliance, not product safety or recalls. A recent update relates to an ingredient called TPO, which is no longer permitted in cosmetic products in the EU from 1 September 2025.
In the UK, the timeline is slightly different:
- 15 August 2026 – Products containing TPO can no longer be newly supplied to the UK market
- 14 February 2027 – End of sell-through period (products will need to be removed from sale)
Professional use of existing stock after this date is still permitted, in line with Trading Standards guidance.
What is TPO?
TPO is an ingredient used in gel products to help them cure under UV or LED light.
Are TGB products safe to use?
Yes, absolutely. All products are fully compliant with current regulations and safe to use. This change is not due to any safety concerns, but part of wider industry regulation updates.
What is changing?
As part of these upcoming regulations, the industry is moving away from TPO. We’ve been proactively reformulating our range ahead of the deadlines to make sure we remain fully compliant across all markets.
Do I need to replace my products?
- EU (including Northern Ireland): Yes — to stay compliant, products containing TPO must not be used or sold following the change that came into effect as of 1 September 2025.
- UK: No immediate action is needed. Products can continue to be sold until 14 February 2027, and professionals can continue using existing stock beyond this date.
Can I return products that contain TPO?
As all products are safe and compliant with current regulations, we’re unable to accept returns based on TPO content alone. If you do have any concerns, our Customer Service team is always here to help.
Why have the UK dates changed?
The UK deadlines have been updated following further clarification of the legislation. Regulatory bodies regularly review and interpret legal text to ensure timelines are applied correctly. The updated guidance confirms a longer transition period in the UK, allowing more time for businesses and professionals to adapt.
How can I check if a product contains TPO?
You can find full ingredient details on the product’s INCI list (ingredient list) which can be found on the products page, or our Customer Service team will be happy to help if you need anything further.
What this means for you
- There’s nothing you need to do — you can continue using your TGB products as normal
- All products currently on the market are safe to use
- Some formulas are being updated in line with new regulations
- If you’re in the EU, updated formulas were in place by 1 September 2025
- If you’re in the UK, changes will happen later, with products updated by February 2027
